Equity Films
Equity Films, Inc. is changing what the world sees—because every story deserves the chance to be seen.
We are a film and creative media company founded by Dr. Patricia Ferguson, inspired by her sons Daniel and Joshua, to champion storytellers from rural and underrepresented communities across the country. As an Anthem Award Finalist and home to the signature Pecan Pickling Film Festival, Equity Films transforms creativity into community and economic growth—one story at a time.
Born out of both passion and purpose, Equity Films was created to close the visibility gap for creators who live beyond the reach of traditional industry centers. Our mission is to build a thriving film and media ecosystem in rural and underserved communities—using storytelling as a bridge between visibility and opportunity. We amplify voices that have been historically overlooked and create pathways for education, leadership, and economic growth through the power of film.
A proud product of Freedom Theatre in Philadelphia, PA, Patricia studied under the legendary John Allen and Bob Leslie, whose mentorship instilled in her a lifelong belief in the transformative power of the arts. That early foundation shaped her vision for Equity Films: creating pathways in the Performing, Creative, and Conceptual Arts and Entertainment Industry that expand opportunity, nurture talent, and inspire pride in rural and underserved communities.
Rural America is home to extraordinary talent, creativity, and heart. The absence of access should never mean the absence of opportunity. Faith and hope remain the threads that hold possibility together—and through film, television, and storytelling, Equity Films helps those possibilities come to life.
As a new but bold voice on the creative arts landscape, Equity Films celebrates and showcases the brilliance of small-town creators, bridging local talent to global platforms. We believe that when rural voices rise, the world sees more clearly—and communities everywhere grow stronger.
The Northeastern North Carolina Film Alliance (NENCFA) exists to strengthen the region’s creative economy by connecting, supporting, and promoting film festivals, filmmakers, and cultural partners across Eastern and Northeastern North Carolina. Our mission is to cultivate a collaborative film ecosystem that amplifies local stories, attracts investment, builds creative workforce pathways, and positions our rural communities as film-ready destinations for national and international productions.
“A Regional Alliance of Film Festivals and Creative Industry Partners”
The NENC Film Alliance is a regional partnership uniting film festivals, cultural organizations, and creative industry stakeholders across Northeastern North Carolina — including Bertie, Hertford, Northampton, Gates, Martin, Chowan, Perquimans, and Pasquotank Counties.
Formed under the leadership of Equity Films and supported by the Northeast Regional Film Commission, the Alliance serves as a collective voice and network for the region’s growing film and media arts movement.
The Alliance works to:
Foster collaboration among film festivals and arts organizations to share resources, expertise, and marketing reach.
Attract and coordinate film productions that highlight the region’s locations, culture, and talent.
Develop training and workforce pipelines through partnerships with schools, colleges, and industry mentors.
Promote rural creative visibility through shared branding, cooperative promotion, and unified storytelling initiatives.
Support local economic growth by connecting the film industry to regional tourism, hospitality, and small business sectors.
The NENC Film Alliance operates in partnership with the Northeast Regional Film Commission, the Windsor–Bertie Chamber of Commerce, the Bertie County Economic Development Commission, Bertie County Schools, the Lewiston Education and Vitality Center, Faith-based organizations and other regional economic development agencies to align film initiatives with long-term community and economic goals.
